Kindergarten

Preparing children not just for school, but for a lifetime of curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, and making friends.

Kindergarten

rooted in wonder

Kindergarten is an exciting year of growth and transition for children. As they rapidly develop physically, emotionally, and socially, their understanding of themselves and the world expands significantly. This is challenging and may explain why progress can vary greatly across different developmental domains. This makes kindergarten a critical time to nurture and encourage new habits, new interpretations, and new connections.

How to learn

We provide a rich, dynamic year that lays the groundwork for academic success and personal growth. It's about honoring facts from fiction—but mostly it's about learning how to learn, how to connect, and how to navigate the world with curiosity and self-regulation.

Learning to work in groups

Beyond sharing and taking turns, kindergartners grow in independence while resolving conflicts. We set up the stage to compell them towards building empathy and cooperation by collaborating on long term projects. It is fertile soil for asking questions and making predictions.

learning to listen

Developing listening skills is primordial for collaboration and the astute observation of the natural world. This translates into recognizing letters and sounds and beginning to read simple words and books.

Learning to write letters, names, and short sentences follows from a desire to express one’s experience. First it is a companion to drawing, and it soon becomes a desired form of expression.

We scaffold reading and writing skills with the Wilson Literacy curriculum.

Exploring ideas and emotions through creativity, our kindergartners continue to express themselves in multiple forms, using “100 languages.”

Math moments

Kindergartners know how to sort, categorize, and compare. We build on these skills to deepen the understanding of number sense, patterns, and shapes.

We use the Dimensions Math cussiculum as well as Montessori materials to play with intention to solve simple addition and subtraction, to study gradients, and spacial relationships.

Math is everywhere on the farm as we study plants, animals, and natural cycles, as we experience and measure changes in the seasons and weather.
