A day in PRESCHOOL LIFE

Each day our preschoolers  have new opportunities to grow, explore, and express themselves in a space where they feel nurtured and inspired.

The arrival

Children arrive with excitement, ready for new adventures. They explore morning activities, where they greet their friends and teachers, building relationships through play and conversation.

 morning assembly

The morning assembly sets the tone for the rest of the day: songs are sung, stories are shared, and ideas for creative projects are discussed. What are we doing next, and then after that? This helps balance lessons in the security of routines with the flexibility of novel experiences.

Journal time

The children draw and write in their journals, reflecting on their ideas and interests.

collaboration

They may collaborate on poems, often inspired by the letter or number of the day, and look around for objects or actions that evoke and deepen the knowledge of the alphabet.

outside!

With a sense of purpose, groups venture outdoors in our gardens, and forests, studying ecology in various habitats.

Each child chooses their path, whether it's balancing on fallen trees, creating new trails, or observing other creatures’ activities. Where do these tracks lead? Oh, here is the box turtle from yesterday. Did she walk farther this time?

What do you see, hear, smell?

We ask many questions together including the following: How are humans and our ideas connected to the natural world around us?

Teachers guide children in observing seasonal changes, temperature shifts, and the patterns of weather.

move, dance, sing, play!

Physical movement is woven into the morning—running, walking, singing, and dancing through the natural landscape.

The children also tend the gardens, learning about the cycles of growth and the care plants require.

one bug + two leaves + 3 trees…

They explore mathematical concepts found in nature, counting the rings of a tree or comparing the sizes of leaves. Every discovery deepens their connection to the environment and to one another.

LEt’s get creative!

As the day unfolds, creative exploration takes center stage. The children dive into building shelters, woodworking, painting and sculpting for example. They wind down by reading stories with the group or reading books, finding themselves in storytelling and drama.

Quiet activities or naps are encouraged to recharge.

Getting ready for home…

As they get ready to go home, they gather in assembly once more time to review the day and share more stories.
